Mere School Gold Class students have initiated a unique cross-cultural exchange with a Year 3 class in Paris, France. Spearheaded by the innovative efforts of Miss Hanby and the collaborative spirit of Maîtresse Anna, this educational venture promises to broaden horizons and foster global connections among young learners.
The journey started with the creation of personalised “Tout sur moi”/”All about me” forms, allowing students from both sides of the English Channel to share insights into their interests and preferences. Using this information, the classes were meticulously paired, setting the stage for an enriching pen pal experience.
Through the wonders of technology, the two classes convened via Zoom for an inaugural meeting. Amid the virtual backdrop, each class showcased their linguistic prowess by serenading their counterparts with songs in their respective languages. As heartfelt greetings of “Bonjour, enchanté” resonated through the screens, it became apparent the seeds of friendship were being sown across borders.
Reflecting on the experience, Miss Hanby expressed her delight at the overwhelmingly positive feedback from her students, who described the encounter as nothing short of “magical.” Despite initial apprehensions, the joy of meeting their pen pals transcended any language barriers, leaving a lasting impression on all.
Looking ahead, both classes are eagerly anticipating the start of a collaborative literary project after half-term. A captivating book has been chosen for simultaneous study, for students to delve into its depths while exchanging thoughts and perspectives with their international peers.
Weekly Zoom rendezvous are on the agenda, when students will share favourite songs, and poems, and embark on exciting joint ventures. The enthusiasm surrounding this initiative has even garnered attention beyond local borders, with national radio France Bleu giving it a nod of recognition.
Miss Hanby and Maîtresse Anna are enthusiastic about the possibilities the partnership holds for the students, envisioning a future filled with cultural enrichment, mutual respect, and enduring friendships.
