Leehurst Swan pupil Ruaraidh Collar has been selected as one of 34 young athletes worldwide to be part of the True Athlete Project.

The project matches mentors with young athletes who ‘not only receive the personalised nurturing support of an incredible role model, but also a personalised mental skills training programme,’ a statement from the Salisbury school said.

Ruaraidh has been paired with James Stephenson, a GB Lightweights rower and 2012 World Triathlete Champion, and they spoke for the first time over Zoom on January 17.

The statement added: “Ruaraidh has a passion for water polo and a desire to coach younger players and progress to becoming a mentor himself in the future. Through the True Athlete Project, Ruaraidh and James will cover sporting themes such as performance, identity & values, mindfulness, community & social responsibility, and nature & connectedness.
