Godolphin has a long tradition of creative writing with Jilly Cooper, Minette Walters and Dorothy L Sayers among its alumni.

Every year it has its own creative writing competition, and this year, it is welcoming entries from primary schools in the Salisbury area as part of a new initiative.

Godolphin is inviting all local primary schools to run an internal writing competition with the title ‘The Walk’.

The competition is for students in Years 5 and 6, and the best two pieces from each school should be sent in for the consideration of a panel of judges made up of Godolphin teachers and students.

The overall winning entry receives a £50 Amazon voucher and two runners-up will be awarded a £25 voucher each.

New Valley News will publish the winning entries.

Godolphin Head of English, Cristina George said: “We hope this title will enable young people to reflect on the walks they have been doing during lockdown, whether on the Salisbury Christmas Tree trail, taking a woodland walk, or a stroll around their neighbourhood looking out for rainbows and teddies in windows.

“Alternatively, students can use the title for an entirely imagined approach. It is very much hoped teachers will want to use this as a chance to spark some creative writing.”

Schools should send their winning entries to Godolphin’s Head of English, Mrs Cristina George, at georgec@godolphin.org by 9am, Monday, March 8, 2021.
