Children were encouraged to take a step out of their comfort zone at a fun filled afternoon of risk-taking activities at Salisbury Cathedral School on Saturday, October 5.

More than 100 local families at a ‘Dangerous Things (you should let your child do!)’ event let their children roam freely in the schools 27 acres in the heart of Salisbury Cathedral Close to take part in the planned and spontaneous activities.

The children aged 4 to 8 took part in mud pie-making, de-constructing electrical appliances, slack-line walking, den building, building camp fires, whittling and chemical reactions.

Carley Sefton-Wilson, CEO from the charity ‘Learning Through Landscapes’, said: “Although the event was great fun, the importance of risk and challenge in children’s lives has never been more crucial, and it was fantastic to see Salisbury Cathedral School helping some of the children in the community tick off some of their 50 Dangerous Things.”

The event was inspired by the book ’50 Dangerous Things’ written by Gever Tulley.

Event organiser Jojo Orange said: “Events like ‘Dangerous Things’ allow us to meet local families and share our unique setting and offer outreach to the local community and to continue to enhance the school experience for our current families.’”
