Woody, a nine-year-old rescue dog from Dogs Trust Salisbury will spend his first Christmas in his new home after waiting a year and a half.

He went into the trust’s care as a three-month old puppy until May, 2019, when he was looking for a home once more due to a change in family’s circumstances.

After more than 450 days, lockdown proved lucky for Woody when Elizabeth and Stephen Best from Gloucester spotted him on Dogs Trust Salisbury’s website.

Elizabeth said: “We would definitely recommend adopting a dog – they make a house a home. A dog is for life and we thought long and hard about getting one, but the time was right for us and he has proved to be the best company ever in this unusual year. We are so happy that Woody is going to be spending the first of many Christmases with us.”

Woody is one of many lucky dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes at Dogs Trust Salisbury to have found loving homes since lockdown began in March.

Dogs Trust fears that, nationally, up to 40,000 more dogs could be at risk of finding themselves without a home as a result of the fallout from the coronavirus crisis.

Dogs Trust Salisbury is not open for public browsing but make an appointment to adopt or take a dog. New processes include social distancing to help keep staff and visitors safe.
