The national charity Dogs Trust reunited a young rescue dog with her brother, after spending a year apart living very different lives.

One-year-old Rottweiler/Boxer/German Shepherd crossbreds Jessie and Luther were part of the same litter sold by an experienced breeder in Huddersfield. But while Luther went off to Chesterfield to live with the Reverend Mark Broomhead and his family as a companion for their existing family dog, Jessie was not so lucky.

Jessie’s new family found she was the wrong breed for them and rehomed her at a very young age. In her new home, Jessie didn’t get along with the cat and she was eventually handed over to Dogs Trust Leeds in May when she was just 8 months old. Dogs Trust Leeds matched Jessie with two potential adopters, but she wouldn’t settle in the new homes, and both times, she was returned to the kennels after just 24 hours. All the upheaval in her early life took its toll, leaving Jessie with some specific behavioural needs.

But fate was to bring the pups back together again, and after the Broomhead family’s older dog passed away, they went searching for a companion for Luther – and miraculously discovered his sister Jessie!
