Although I have still plenty of grumbles left in me, now is not the time to complain: now is the time to be grateful, grateful that we have a wonderful health service peopled by such caring people, who can rise with such dedication to such emergencies. I know there have been a few complaints about being prepared and not starting everything sooner, but hindsight is a wonderful luxury they didn’t have.

Yes, they are prepared for emergencies, but something like this could never be envisaged I am sure. Let us also thank the food shops, chemists and their staff as their dedication to serving is just as important as the health service and they are also putting themselves at risk. Some supermarkets have reacted quicker than others to protect staff and customers right from the beginning, which is something people will remember. Corner shops, too, are wonderful and are rising to the occasion and making sure local people who can’t travel can still get what they want. Also, let’s be grateful for all the unseen lorry drivers bringing the food to all the stores each day.

It has also bought out kindness and caring in the majority of people, and some people are coming up with innovative ways to help others. But, unfortunately, as ever there are always those greedy selfish people who think now is a good time to defraud vulnerable people: or even worse, the ones who spit at police saying they have Coronavirus. Fining them is not enough of a deterrent: I would make them work as cleaners on a Coronavirus ward.

In conclusion, foreign travel is a wonderful thing, but not when it spreads disease to every far-flung corner of the world, and being in an aircraft has to be the easiest way for a virus to travel from person to person.
