I take issue with one of your correspondents (New Valley News 11/20) who describes OAP apartments as ghettos. Two dictionaries I have consulted describe ‘ghetto’ as synonymous with ‘slums’. The recent OAP housing in Salisbury I find to be warm and convenient, albeit a bit expensive, but a world away from the description of ‘ghetto’. In fact, it is an insult both to the builders and people who live in them. This type of housing helps with downsizing and releasing larger houses onto our desperate housing shortage.

There is a suggestion that Salisbury be renamed Oldsbury which could be avoided by our councillors declaring Independence and taking back control from Wiltshire.
