Zooming in

So, what happened to last week’s Personnel committee meeting, where they talk about staffing arrangements and money? Well, what always happens, of course. It’s held in lockdown secret. We’re not allowed to know what goes on. They have their reasons. Not much point in asking them to explain.

So on to planning.

Phosphate neutrality’s a better bet. We’re allowed to know about that. Builders need to consider it. It’s to do with sewerage, particularly the run-off from farms, and they’re supposed to make sure the ground isn’t contaminated. Apparently Salisbury’s been affected.

And so to current applications. The proposal to build an extension to a property in Roman Road isn’t popular. There’s a risk of overlooking neighbouring properties and consequent loss of privacy. They’ll ask the conservation officer to take a look.

The same goes for that house in Netherhampton Road. Again, it’ll overlook the neighbours.

And that application to extend the property in Harnwood Road? Well, it’s on a corner. So why didn’t they ask to extend into the garden? Cllr Corbin (Tom) agrees. It goes right up to the boundary and, anyway, he doesn’t like the design.

There’s been a lot of objections to that proposal to demolish that existing building in College Street and replace it with a new one, only it seems they aren’t planning-based.

And the house in Marsh Road, where they want to carry out ‘extensive work’? Well other properties in the road have been allowed, haven’t they?

There’s a mixed reaction to the Old Meadows Walk proposal. Cllr Corbin likes the front while Cllr Berry thinks it’s a bit over the top, but it’s OK.

Plans for the Old Manor hospital – mostly involving internal apartment layouts apparently – has WC town planners ‘all over it.’ I think that means approval.

But isn’t this all a bit pointless in view of the government’s decision to do away with local consultations and make planning decisions nationally?

Isn’t it better to concentrate, for instance, on more important things, like the chairman of the parish council’s ‘mayoral’ chain getting refurbished?
