A 37-year-old woman has just been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent against a young child.

The child suffered horrific injuries and is still fighting for life 20 months after the alleged attack in Tidworth, Wiltshire.

Zoe Bennett will appear before Salisbury Magistrates next month.

The child was rushed to Salisbury District Hospital on January 23, 2019, before being transferred to Southampton General Hospital.

The charge follows a huge police inquiry by hand-picked detectives from Wiltshire Police.

Now the Crown Prosecution Service has just given the green light for proceedings to be taken against her.

She was arrested in January, 2019,  alongside a 37-year-old man, and then released on bail without charge.

No action is being taken against the man.

Yesterday, Wiltshire Police – who refused to reveal the age of the child – said: “The child is still extremely unwell and is in a critical condition.”

Following its investigations, Zoe Bennett, from Ludgershall Road, Tidworth, has now been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and released on conditional bail.

The Police added: “No further action is to be taken against the 37-year-old man originally arrested with her.”
