Wilton’s Victorian Reading Room, known locally as ‘The Church Room’, is to be transformed for 21st Century use.

Built in 1897, the Jubilee year of Queen Victoria, the building has been adapted over the years to accommodate social and religious activities and the parish office. The site was acquired by Wilton Middle School Educational Trust and is being renovated and improved to provide a base for the trust’s work, as well as a more effective office for the church.

WMSET works closely with Youth Action Wiltshire and ‘Seeds4Success’ to provide much of the town’s Youth work, as well as supporting local schools and to individuals undertaking study or training.

It is hoped that the new WMSET Centre will help to raise the Trust’s profile and encourage a wider range of local people to pursue new educational interests or develop existing ones.

Building work is expected to be completed in early June and official launch events follow in the summer, if and when it is safe to gather again!
