Motorists travelling though Wilton have been warned that signs warning of road works may not be adequate.

Town councillor Alan Crossley has told the contractors that the work on gas main replacement signage on the southern approaches to the South street works is not sufficiently instructive.

“I have had reports that numerous vehicles are driving right up to the roadworks and are then having to turn around, including a large lorry carrying oxygen cylinders,” he told the contractors.

South Street is closed from Saturday, May 16, to June 10.

The work on West Street has been completed a week ahead of the planned programme.

Contractors SGN apologised for the short notification of the change of programme dates and any inconvenience caused.
