A Community Policing model introduced five years ago was aimed at ensuring the service was suited to communities.

Now, with changing communities, priorities and types of crime, Chief Constable Kier Pritchard has commissioned an improvement programme to ensure the model continues to meet the needs of the people of Wiltshire.

Changes include new policing teams in Warminster and Royal Wootton Bassett, amalgamating Swindon Community Policing Teams (CPTs) into one CPT area, and changing the names of community policing teams to reflect the towns they serve so their patch is easier for the public to recognise.

Dedicated teams to focus on neighbourhood policing, made up of officers and PCSOs, will be re-introduced.

The CPT Neighbourhood Teams are responsible for proactive policing, community engagement and working with partners to solve community problems.

The CPT Response Teams will be directly responding to crimes and incidents.

The CPT Neighbourhood teams will be the most visible improvement in the model, with each CPT led by a Neighbourhood Inspector, and each team led by a sergeant.
