The Phoenix Emporium in Tollgate Road, has closed from today, Thursday, March 19, to follow advice from the Government is clear.
Owner Jules Aplin said: “We at The Phoenix Emporium take our social responsibilities very seriously and we feel it would be socially and morally wrong to remain open and encourage you to come out to shop during this time of not just national but worldwide crisis. In our opinion you cannot put a price on people’s health and their safety and we do not want to contribute to the pressures the NHS will be under during the coming days and weeks.
“Let us stress this is not a decision we have taken lightly, as we are a new small business, and the financial impact will be huge and damaging . We are home not just to a fantastic team of staff, but also over 100 individual small businesses, all of whom will also feel the effects.
“Stay safe, stay well and we will see you on the other side of this, we have so many plans and this will not be the end.
