Acrobatic and athletics skills will be put to the test at a new leisure spot in Salisbury.

A new parkour park project by Salisbury City Council in partnership with Wiltshire Council  will provide a great opportunity to get outdoors, get active and healthier in a fun and social way, the councils claim.

The £50,000 parkour park was funded by grants from Sport England – Community Asset Fund, the Landfill Community Trust, and the two councils, with a Salisbury Area Board Community grant. The park is for all ages and abilities.

Parkour is a sport for the participant to go from one randomly-chosen place or object to another as nimbly as possible. typical parkour moves include jumping, overcoming and passing under obstacles, climbing and hanging, and some acrobatic moves, a council statement said.

An opening event is on Saturday, October 19 at 1pm and introductory coaching sessions are planned in the coming weeks by qualified parkour coaches to provide the basic skills needed to use the park.
