Danny Kruger MP for Devizes met Duncan Wilson, Chief Executive of Historic England, at the Devizes Assize Courts to discuss this important regeneration project. They were given a short tour and an outline of plans to transform the Grade II* listed building into the new home of the Wiltshire Museum by David Dawson, Director of the Wiltshire Museum, and Colin Johns, architect for the Devizes Assize Court Trust.

Historic England is supporting the Trust to save this impressive purpose-built court building, which has been on the Heritage at Risk Register since 1999.

Danny Kruger MP said: “I was very pleased to welcome Duncan from Historic England to Devizes on Friday to discuss the plans for our historic Assize Court with the team who are planning its restoration. I very much hope we will get the funding we need to restore the court and secure it as a lasting asset for the future.”

Historic England Chief Executive Duncan Wilson said: “The Assize Court is vitally important to the story of Devizes and it’s sad to see it in its current condition. But its potential is also clear to see. As the new home for the Wiltshire Museum it could contribute hugely to local economic and community life. I’m pleased we’re working with the Trust and Wiltshire Museum to secure its future.”
