Another £681,000 from the second tranche of the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Active Travel Fund to progress cycling schemes in the county had been awarded to Wiltshire Council.

The funding is intended to create easier and safer access for pedestrians and cyclists to shops, businesses and places of work without driving or using public transport, and to help people to maintain social distancing.

The award is less than the £908,000 the council bid for, so it is holding a consultation on options starting next week combined with the first tranche of controversial temporary schemes already started.

The scheme in tranche one is the Salisbury to Harnham via Brown Street and Exeter Street

The scheme to be as part of tranche is a permanent shared-use cycle path on Downton Road, Salisbury.
