With a national focus on the litter problem growing during the current pandemic crisis, Warminster Town Council is to consider a plan to tackle the issue in the town.

The council received emails, letters and phone calls from the public asking for various bins around the town to be replaced. Currently, the town council is not responsible for litter bins, except those in its own maintained sites.

The other bins are one of the services which could be transferred to the town council from Wiltshire Council as part of the asset transfer process. Meanwhile, officers are surveying existing bins and the town council has adopted a policy for replacement.

At the next meeting of the Environmental Service Committee on Monday, April 12, the town council members will be asked to earmark £3,000 for bin repair and replacement in the financial year 2021/2022 and to instruct officers to work with Wiltshire Council to improve the condition of the bins around the town.
