Salisbury and Wilton Market stallholders want to make life easier by delivering food to the doorstep. They say that, during the cold months and the possibility of lockdowns, families might not want to step out to visit local markets.

Colin and nephew Glen from New Forest Greengrocers Ltd have been getting up early every Tuesday and Thursday for the past 15 years to take locally-sourced vegetables to the markets.

“To make it easier for customers they can call us with an order and we will deliver a box of fruit and veg to them at the end of the day on Tuesday or Thursday,” Colin told New Valley News. “It couldn’t be easier and people can do contactless payment when we deliver. There will be minimum order of £10.”

Luke from The Salisbury Butcher is also doing deliveries. “Many people don’t want to go to supermarkets these days, so I am happy to do the leg work for them,” Luke said. “Give me a ring, give me your meat and pie order and I will deliver in the Salisbury area.” That week Luke had delivered meat to Fovant, Dinton, Broadchalke, and Teffont.

Local fishery Mere Trout Farm is also a regular stallholder at Wilton and Salisbury Markets. George has been working for his father for many years: “Our trout is raised in natural chalk streams, and we smoke the fish ourselves.” There is a selection of delicious pates, smoked trout, hot smoked trout, and the smoked trout roulade spirals are highly recommended.
