Victims were still counting the cost yesterday of an accidental fire caused by an electrical fault in Shaftesbury on Sunday, October 18.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at 8.39pm and crews from Shaftesbury and Sturminster Newton, Gillingham and Tisbury attended, plus an aerial platform from Salisbury and support from Sherborne.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was in a three-storey end-of-terrace building.

Eight breathing apparatus wearers used three hose reel jets because the fire could have spread through the roof to neighbouring property. Roof tiles were stripped to check the fire was contained. The Shaftesbury crew returned in yesterday morning to inspect the damage.
