The M27 West of Hamble Bridge between junction 8 (Bursledon) and junction 9 (Park Gate) will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes on the westbound carriageway this weekend for installation of a new gantry.

The work will involve one lane closed in each direction between 6am and 8pm on Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18 for the safety of the workforce and road users. Three lanes will be open at all other times.

The weekend’s activity involves a piling rig, inserting interlocking sheets into the soil to enable the installation of gantry signposts, known as ‘sheet piling’.

The work was originally planned for overnight, but similar work at other locations showed the impact it can cause to local communities overnight. The programme was changed to working during the day.
