The Goat pub in Downton has been informed of a Covid-19 case at the venue.

The owners have temporarily closed while the premises are deep-cleaned and staff tested.

Announcing the closure on Facebook, a post from the pub said: “We are following the Government’s guidelines and for everyone’s health and safety, we have decided to temporarily close the pub. Track and Trace have details of every single person who entered our building.

“If you have been in contact with the infected person, you will be contacted by the NHS service.

“Our staff are at home awaiting test results and we are hoping to re-open as soon as it’s safe to do so. We do apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and we cannot wait to welcome you back.”

The closure seems to be the first outbreak of its kind in the Salisbury area, where a venue has been affected as a result of a positive case.

Locals and regulars showed their support in their comments, wishing the pub well and hoping for its swift return.
