Remember Alzheimer’s Support’s Music for the Mind group and Memory Café at St George’s Hall in Harnham? It has re-opened and is welcoming new members.

Music for the Mind meets every Thursday morning, except the fourth Thursday of the month when it makes way for the Memory Café.

The music group builds on the fact that tunes appear to ‘unlock’ parts of the brain and people often retain melodies and lyrics longer than other memories. The sessions are carefully structured to be stimulating and fun. The Memory Café has entertainment and activities, and gives the chance to make friends and find out more about dementia and available support.

Sarah Marriott, head of community services, said: “We’re pleased to restart our community groups and look forward to welcoming new members. There’s a real family feel to them and although staff and volunteers have to wear PPE, we are determined to ensure the sessions are as enjoyable as ever and feel normal.”

Alzheimer’s Support’s thorough risk assessment and strict guidelines set by Public Health England are followed to ensure everyone stays safe.
