Downton Bowling Club has devised its own system to keep playing during the lockdown rules.

The club has begun internal, low key, competition in the various bowls formats.

A systems was set up for singles to be played and the membership was allowed once more to tread the turf. A singles tournament ended with two of the men players, Alan Waters and Dave Colgrave, battling out a final, which Alan won.

After more relaxing of regulations, the club played pairs. A round robin league for three weeks proved extremely popular. Alan Waters was again in the frame, winning with his partner Dawnie Jones.

Now, groups of six are allowed on one rink, with a maximum of four rinks being used. Triples, probably the most popular format of team bowls, could be played, with the usual banter and fun. At the moment the club is halfway through the Triples twice weekly sessions. A full capacity, 24 players, has enjoyed the lovely weather, being active and getting outside. Although Triples teams, individual scores are kept and Bob Tanner appeared invincible as his teams have yet to be beaten.

Downton Bowling Club is always seeking new members. Bookable open days on Sunday, July 26, and Sunday, August 2. Contact Alan Waters on 01725 512531, email downtonbowls@gmail.com, or visit website downtonbowlingclub.weebly.com.
