Detectives investigating an alleged assault in Gillingham seek witnesses.

At about 10pm on Saturday, October 17, two 18-year-old men were reported walking near Addison Close when they were approached by a group of people who picked a fight.

One of the group is said to have punched one of the 18-year-old men several times to his head and ears, before he fell unconscious. He sustained a fractured cheekbone, a blood clot behind his eardrum, bruising to his brain and a fractured skull.

The second 18-year-old allegedly attempted to intervene, but was punched in the face causing a small cut to his lip.

The next day, Sunday, a 20-year-old man from the Gillingham area was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault. He was released on police bail pending enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Matt Bradley, of Weymouth CID, said: “I understand there were a number of people who came to the aid of the victim and I would ask any of them who have not spoken to police to please contact Dorset Police.”
