The way we view outdoor space has transformed over the past year, our gardens have become spaces to escape from homes, which have become offices and schools, and foreign holidays have been off the menu.

Sales of garden furniture, outdoor heaters and BBQs have increased as people improve their outdoor space, with al fresco tablescapes featuring heavily on social media. With Summer underway, it’s the perfect time to upgrade outdoor tableware to make the most of your garden this summer.

We are lucky in the South West and UK with so many local makers and brands producing all sorts of fabulous things to grace your outdoor table. The natural tones and hard wearing nature of salt glazed pottery is something we particularly like outdoors, for everything from serving ware to jugs check out the Knighton Mill Pottery (www.knightonmillpottery.com)

in the Chalke Valley, potter Ian makes beautiful objects that are thoroughly Instagram worthy. For more practical garden diners, enamelware can look really smart in the garden and can double up as picnicware, UK brand Falcon’s (www.falconenamelware.com) white and blue enamelware is iconic.

Glassware can be particularly challenging, but Mark Taylor and David Hill, also known as The Glassmakers (www.theglassmakers.co.uk), based near Quarley make some wonderful heavier glasses, following heritage designs, which are perfect for enjoying a glass of rosé. We love to add colour, and a whimsical glug jug made in Stoke-on-Trent (www.oliverbonas.com) always adds a bit of fun to a table.
