The independent school, St Mary’s Shaftesbury, a private Roman Catholic day and boarding school for girls aged nine to 18, had been operating at a loss for some time.

New Valley News is sad to learn that the school has now closed permanently.

After agreeing a sale with a Chinese-based education company in April. The deal collapsed in June – just one day before contracts were exchanged, and the investors allegedly pulled out after “political tensions” arose with China.

Although 40 others showed interest, no firm offers were made by the deadline of July 6 and the school put under administration and closed.
