Salisbury District hospital has recruited 169 nurses from overseas in the last year.

The fully trained ‘angels’ from India and the Philippines plugged the severe nursing shortage at Salisbury District Hospital, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

And more are expected to be recruited in the next 12 months.

The nurses – who can bring their dependents with them – are housed for the first 12 months in accommodation at the 464 bed hospital.

Then they have to find their accommodation.

Yesterday a spokesperson for the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust which runs the hospital said: ”From January 2023 until Jan 2024 we recruited 169 nurses from overseas.

“There is a well known nurse shortfall in the UK – national policy encourages local UK based recruitment but there remains a shortage.”
