RSPB South Wiltshire Local Group offers a varied programme of entertaining and informative talks about birds and other wildlife-related subjects around the UK and the world.

They will host Indoor Meetings at Salisbury Arts Centre in September and October, and everyone is very welcome.

The doors open at 7pm, meetings start at 7.30pm and last about 2 hours with an interval for refreshments – tea, coffee and soft drinks – allowing new members and visitors an excellent opportunity to meet existing members and learn more about our activities.

TUESDAY 13 SEPTEMBER

“A Victorian Birder’s Wiltshire” by Mark Barrett

Mark has been birding in Wiltshire for many years, perhaps not since Victorian times. He conducted extensive research into Wiltshire’s birds of that era. He studied the work of famous naturalists Richard Jefferies and W H Hudson, who were at large in the Wiltshire countryside then. Mark will show us some of the species we’ve lost (expect some surprises) and those we’ve gained. Mark’s infectious enthusiasm and passion for local history make this a talk to remember.

Salisbury Arts Centre, Bedwin Street, Salisbury SP1 3UT

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Group members £5, non-members £6, under 18s free.

TUESDAY 11 OCTOBER

“Pura Vida – Costa Rica’s Magical Birds” by Steve Oakes

Picture a country the size of Wales with a Pacific and Caribbean coast, a mountainous interior with forested slopes and active volcanoes, and infrastructure of comfortable lodges with hummingbird feeders. This is Costa Rica, arguably the finest place in the world for a birding adventure. Steve Oakes is a brilliant, gifted presenter whose knowledge and passion are second to none!
