Local MPs have welcomed the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme extension until October.

Salisbury MP John Glen said: “The government has said throughout the COVID-19 pandemic that we are prepared to do whatever it takes to protect the economy and jobs. I am delighted the Chancellor has extended the Job Retention Scheme until October, ensuring that many of my constituents will continue to be supported through this public health crisis.”

Devizes MP Danny Kruger said it was a welcome move.

“Extending the furlough scheme for those who still cannot return to work safely is welcome and hopefully prevent redundancies and more people out of work. Employers should, however, be mindful of the latest guidance, which emphasises that those who cannot work from home and who are employed by businesses cleared to reopen/continue working, should now be thinking of returning to work where it is safe to do so.”
