Let’s go back to the 1970s, tie-dye, Fleetwood Mac, and Grease Lightning.

Now, another 70s classic is making a comeback and it couldn’t be more perfect for the new Covid-19 world.

A Bournemouth-based events company is bringing drive-in cinemas back to Salisbury showing bumper movies The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Bohemian Rhapsody, Pulp Fiction, and The Greatest Showman.

Speaking to New Valley NewsOperations Manager Constantin Wassilev said: “Drive-in cinemas were really popular in Germany, so we brought them over to the UK. Initially, drive-in theatres were one of the only facilities able to open, and everyone can stay safely distanced in their own cars, and the opportunity to get out of the house – I always think of it as an extension to your living room!”

The Salisbury theatres will pop-up at Southern Counties Auctioneers site on Netherhampton Road, showing screenings every two weeks on Friday and Saturday evenings. When you arrive, your vehicle will be given a receiver connected to a Bluetooth speaker so you can choose your own volume.

The essential movie snacks are also on offer, with fresh sweet or salty popcorn and soft drinks, non-alcoholic beer and prosecco.

“What I love about the British drive-in cinema is that people are so creative,” said Constantin.

“People arrive with pillows and blankets and make it feel like home. At the children’s movies, I have seen kids sitting in the drivers’ seats and the parents in the back, which is a really funny sight! Couples have even said they had a little cuddle making it a romantic date night,” he added.

The drive-in cinema offers a unique movie experience with a giant high-quality screen – so far it has been incredibly popular.

Planned screenings for Salisbury include:

The Rocky Horror Picture Show, August 7

Bohemian Rhapsody, August 8

Pulp Fiction, August 14

The Greatest Showman, August 15
