The Crown Inn Upton, near Andover, has a mention in the Michelin Guide. With its unique approach to its dining, a full Plats du Jour, A la Carte and lunch menus which change regularly, as well as a monthly Sunday lunch menu, the village inn is said to be ‘a real destination dining gastronomic visit.’  Chef and owner Dave Watts, who trained with Raymond Blanc and Gary Jones at the prestigious Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, is dedicated to using local produce and artisanal suppliers.

The Guide says of The Crown Inn, Upton: ‘This welcoming pub is nestled amidst narrow lanes and lush farmland. Find a seat in the open-fired bar, the airy conservatory or out on the terrace, and enjoy colourful, eye-catching dishes where ingredients from small local producers steal the show. You can also dine privately in a firelit wooden igloo.’

Both menu choices are available in the evening and lunchtime most days and include The Crown’s bread service (organic three-flour 48-hour sourdough with Skyr butter, all made on-site by the team), as well as an appetiser before the starters course.  The restaurant also offers a special 3-course deal including sandwiches, soup, and pudding for just £15.50 and other classic dishes at lunchtime. Sunday lunches are available on the first Sunday of the month.

Dave and the team are also celebrating a great write-up in this year’s Good Food Guide with comments like ‘A little bit of magic can happen when a traditional country pub is taken over by an experienced and driven chef.’ As well as the food, it mentions the ‘thoughtfully compiled wine list ….. with plenty to catch the eye below £30.’

The Crown is in this year’s final round of Trencherman’s Awards – the most highly coveted scheme rewarding the best chefs, food, and guest experience in the area and was a finalist in the Muddy Stilettos Award Scheme.
