A vacant property on Endless Street, Salisbury, has been transformed into a flexible workspace suitable for those working from home.

When Philip Connolly and Marcus Reynolds noticed the impact of lockdown and working from home on people’s mental health, they decided to try a new business venture.

Their venture is the Salisbury Office, an independent and flexible workspace in the centre of Salisbury with nine luxury ‘pods’ people can hire by the day, week or month.

Previously a William Hill Bookmakers, Philip and Marcus have refurbished the ground floor space to create stylish, bright and functional pods, all with a desk, ergonomic chair, 24-ins computer monitor, Bluetooth keyboard with mouse and a universal docking port. Superfast secure broadband and wi-fi are also included. There is also a kitchen area and toilet facilities, and all pods have an extraction fan to make them covid-secure.

Philip said: “The aim of the business is to allow those currently working from home to spend the odd day per month away from home to relieve the pressures of having to work and live within the same four walls. We are Covid secure, follow the relevant social distancing protocols and truly believe we offer a service which has a positive effect on workers’ mental health and productivity, given their current working conditions. We really feel that change can be as good as a rest.”

Speaking to New Valley News, Philip said he hopes the new business venture will also support local independents such as Nuggs Café and Naked Bagel.

“I hope, by coming here to work, people will pop out for lunch or a coffee from the local independents. In future, we will offer deals like buy 10 days and we will buy your lunch, collaborating with local businesses. After work, people may head into town for a drink, so I hope this will contribute to the vibrancy of Salisbury as a city.”

Salisbury BID said they were encouraged to see another vacant property transformed by two local entrepreneurs offering innovative solutions brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Salisbury Office is open for business now from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Pods cost £36 a day to hire, with double pods for those working together.
