A record four new members brings Wilton Rotary Club’s membership to 27 including Honorary Members Lord Pembroke and the Mayor of Wilton.

At the weekly meeting on March 9, the President and members, including four founder members present at the club’s charter in 1979, welcomed the new members.

They have already supported the club’s activities as members of Friends of Wilton Rotary group and will form part of a new Service Projects Committee.

The new committee is part of a range of changes introduced by the Club to attract new members.

Wilton Rotary President Carole Slater said: “Rotary the world over is at last changing its modus operandi to accommodate the lifestyles and working practices of the 21st century. Rotary recognises that, nowadays, the lifestyle of working people may not permit them to attend the majority of our traditional Monday evening meetings.  We now offer a choice of six different membership cost packages, each carrying different expectations of attendance at our regular club meetings from weekly or monthly or, in the case of the Service Projects Committee members – rarely!

“They will carry out their work for the club where, when and how it suits them. Two of the new members have opted for our new corporate membership package and two have opted for the new Extra Lite package which we feel vindicates our decision to offer more flexible terms.

President, Carole added: “I believe future prospects of our club look very healthy.

In the last five years, we have made some 180 donations, mostly to local charities, totalling over £90,000. Through our well-known charitable marshalling activities, we have played a key role in raising more than £600,000 for The Stars Appeal and other charities.

“We have a full complement of club leaders for the first time in several years. After several years of falling numbers, I’m pleased and proud to say a concerted team effort to find new members is beginning to bear fruit and we have more prospective members in the pipeline.”
