The Prestige glamping award for the South of England has been given to Stonehenge campsite.

New Valley News talked to site manager, Jeff, about winning the award and being back in business after the lockdown.

He said: “Just before lockdown we were contacted by Prestige to ask if we would like to enter their awards. Shortly after, however, we went into lockdown, so we thought ‘that’s the end of that’.”

But the lockdown didn’t stop Jeff and his team, who used the good weather and extra time to complete some big jobs they had wanted to do for a while.

“During lockdown we refurbished our pods, building a decking and dining area for our bell tent, and illuminating it with lights. The festival pod also received a fresh lick of paint. We’ve started a breakfast service, so you get freshly-baked croissants and fruit juices delivered to your cosy pod in the morning.”

During all of this, the campsite kept customers up-to-date with the repairs, refurbishments and new safety measures implemented due to Covid-19. Little did Jeff and his team know, the judges of Prestige had been watching the campsite’s activity online.

“Because we had been proactive, communicating all of our exciting new changes, we ended up winning the Prestige Glamping Award for the South of England. We were well impressed!”

The future looks Bright for Stonehenge campsite, and the award has given Jeff and his team a boost of confidence to go forward into the ‘new normal’.

“We’ve been stupidly busy. As soon as Boris made his statement, the phone didn’t stop ringing for three days, and every so often you would put it on silent just so you could have a cup of tea,” Jeff joked.

“A lot of facilities aren’t open. Ours are, and we’ve implemented the one-way system and put in sanitisers for people to wipe things down after use.

“Initially we were really apprehensive, we were closed for three months and then, all the sudden, you can re-open. It’s been really nice to have people back and we’re looking forward to the future,” added Jeff.

Exciting plans lie ahead for Stonehenge campsite with another unique glamping unit on the way.

“We have a customer who is designing a double-decker bus into a glamping unit, which is coming here exclusive to us. It’ll be high-end glamping with two double bedrooms upstairs, a kitchen downstairs, plus some glamorous extras,” Jeff explained.
