With Care Homes having such bad press these days New Valley News wanted to hear directly from a Salisbury care home how the staff had been coping during the past months.
Marie-Therese Tiernan, general manager of Milford House, was full of enthusiasm for looking after and supporting residents at all times, including this present restrictive time and the future.
“During lockdown, we were overjoyed to receive gifts, letters, and postcards from the local community. Staff also received washable uniform bags, as well as flowers to say ‘thank you’. The kind gestures were a wonderful surprise, and a great boost for the hard-working staff. Residents really enjoyed receiving letters and postcards, and everyone shared the bounty of treats.”
For the future, clients can have every confidence coming to Milford for either respite or long-term care.
“Milford is first and foremost our Resident’s home and everything that we do has to be viewed through the prism of protecting our residents, and being cautious is key to this, and main area of focus is working to the latest government guidelines regarding infection control,” Marie-Therese said.
“We understand what an especially difficult time this is for individuals and families but happy to answer all questions and put their mind at ease, as we are completely transparent about the protocols to protect new residents, and of course, our current residents. The protocols are firstly about coming to view the home and secondly what happens when someone comes to stay at the home, either from hospital or their own home.”
The overall feeling when talking to Marie-Therese was the love and warmth she and her staff feel for their residents.
“Staff love what they do, and each resident becomes a friend and part of the Milford House family. Our ability to help people through this difficult process, at such a challenging time, with openness and our friendly ‘Milford Welcome’ is something all staff and managers are proud of.”
